Show NO "FLARING"' CHARGES. "Much Ado About Nothing," might be- applied to the nonsensical charges mado again.st J. Arthur Mecham, state fish and game commissioner. Salt Ijike papers last week cai-ried the commissioner's picture, printed long stories of the action of some of the "aelect," but never in one instance made a specific charge of crookjd work and never was there an instance brought out of the incompetency of Mr. Mecham in conducting his office. There are hundreds and hundreds of sports that do not live in Salt Lake but are really more active in seeing the entire state served than many of those living in Salt Lake, and these "country" sports would like to know just why the commissioner should be lambasted and ridiculed. Commissioner Mecham was recommended recom-mended to the office by his former .superior, D. H. Madsen, and was appointed ap-pointed by Governor Dern and the legislature, leg-islature, confirmed the appointment. How could this happen if Mecham is incompetent, pray tell us. Salt Lake sportsmen, or those who are ondeavering to effect the removal of Commissioner Mecham, must remember re-member that they are not wholly in the majority, and they must realize that it has taken years to build up the splendid fish and game conditions in Utah. Forget it, if you have a personal per-sonal grievance and do not create a "riot" among the sportsmen of Utah, but. get back of Commissioner Mecham, Me-cham, and above all don't wreck the state organization all because you could not land a "pet" for the position posi-tion which Mr. Mecham holds. |
