Show Gunnison Organizes For Baseball Season ' Baseball, the National game, and one that inspires, thrills and rejuvenates rejuven-ates the old and keeps the young younger, is "looming" for Gunnison again, after a period of many years of dormancy. The spirit is in the air, men talk it, boys talk it, and all are longing for the day when the unpire will call "play ball." With the organization of the San-pete-Nephi-Salina baseball league, which will include Gunnison, Salina, Ephraim. Mt. Pleasant, Fairview and Nephi, and with a strong team from every burg, every indication points to real active sport dur'ng the coming ball season, and the thrill of the contests con-tests will be a genuine treat. Gunnison, which for years held a prominent place in practically all league games in years gone by, and which benefitted materially by the v'sitors from outside points and is lining up for the "big play" and will be ready for the opening game, which is scheduled at Fairview. Friday, May 24. When the local players appear ap-pear on the diamond for the "opener," they will be togged in new unforms, the contributions from the progressive progres-sive local merchants. Not only have new suits been ordered, but balls, bats, mask, chest and shin protectors and other necessary paraphernalia have been received and practice games started. A few of the "old-timers" will be seen in the Vne-up this season. Grant Nielson. who has been chosen manager man-ager for the Gunnison club, has announced an-nounced the enrollment of some twenty, twen-ty, which will "take the try-outs. Among them are Hugh Hialverson, Lester Fredrickson, C. L. Larson, R. D. Willardson, LaMar Anderson. Leo Mickelson, Fred H. Jones, A. H. Newman, New-man, L. Mickelson, Glen Stubbs, Newell New-ell Childs. Tony Villard, R. K. Gadd'e, Wilford Bauer and Grant Chi'dester. Tryouts for the respective positions for the infield and outfield, will be held soon after the practice games start. |
