Farmers Rush For Federal Farm Loans Applications for farm loans arc flooding into the Federal Land bank of Berkeley at the rate of more than i a thousand a week, it has been announced. an-nounced. The number of applications ' for land bank and commissioner's I loans for the week ending Wednesday was 1,056 an all-time high, j A clerical staff of forty in the I bank's application department has j been working nights and Sundays, I with an extra shift of stenographers employed from 7 p. m. until midnight. A total of 257 appraisers are at work Jon farms in California, Nevada, Utah 'and Arizona, making appraisals up-i up-i on farm property on which loans are sought. Still the number of applications applica-tions increases faster than .the bank's staff can cope with them. For the week ending October 4 the total of applications not yet disposed of was 13,066 roughly one-tenth the total number of farms in California alone and that represented applications applica-tions aggregating $58,000,000. Demands De-mands for loans over that week totaled to-taled 696 and in the same period 194 were closed. : Over all the United States during the same week applications amounted to 231,332. |
