Show Christmas Week Is Fittingly Observed A snowless Christmas, a rarity in the Gunnison valley, was greeted, nevertheless, with hundreds of happy celebratqrs, and throughout the day there were entertainments for the children, as well as the grown-ups, and private home dinner parties, dancing and other amusements that kept the merrymakers in a happy mood, though there was a lack of snow that gives a real tinge during the yuletide season. The main feature the day before Christmas was the entertainment of the children at the Casino theatre Tuesday. The affair was staged and sponsored by members of the Gunnison Gunni-son Lions club. A special picture, secured se-cured for the purpose by Manager Anderson, was truly interesting and entertaining, and the show house was packed to capacity with eager hearts and happy faces. They went to see. good old Santa Claus. And the kindly old man from the north appeared between be-tween the shows. He was cheerily greeted and as he presented each child with a bag of nuts and candy, he was given a glad hand from every quarter. And members of the Gunnison Lions club were extended a hearty greeting for making it possible pos-sible for the children to enjoy the rare entertainment. The two wards in Gunnison stake entertained at functions during the week. Christmas morning at the Hamilton ward an appropriate program pro-gram was given. A big tree, elaborately elabor-ately decorated, and a visit by Santa Claus, brought cheer and happiness to the big crowd. Sunday morning a sacred program, arranged by the Sunday school, was highly enjoyed. At the Gunnison ward chapel last Sunday morning, with the Sunday school in charge, an unusually interesting inter-esting program was given. The big feature at this- meeting was the appearance ap-pearance of Gunnison's young symphony sym-phony orchestra. This young group of "midget" musicians,' tutored by Milton Perkins, musical instructor at the Gunnison Valley high school, gave a splendid entertainment and were just like "grown-up" musicians. It was the first appearance of the group before the public, and the little lit-tle folks won a hearty applause. Dances during the week at the high school and Bowery, the latter a new hall, proved entertaining features, fea-tures, and throughout the holiday-week holiday-week there were many social events. |
