Show Lions Club Backs Pojltry Industry Poultry, which is playing an im-j portant part in the success of many of the farmers throughout Utah, where the industry is applied only as a sideline, and in many instances the . main feature, will become a more im- J portant industry in the Great Gunni- i son valley, if contemplated plans mature. ma-ture. A movement is now on foot and is being sponsored by the Gunn'son ! Lions club to further the industry in the valley. To the end of gaining the full support of the citizens of the valley, val-ley, farmers, ranchers, merchants and the housewives, a meeting has been called for Friday night at which time every phase of the poultry industry! will be discussed and the great possi- s bilities put before the people. The i meeting will be held at the Gunni-' son Valley high school building, and will start at seven thirty. Poultry experts will be in attendance and some real messages will be given. Statistics of the poultry industry of the state, when studied from a fin-ancial fin-ancial standpoint, discloses some I startling figvres. A state association announces that $2,000,000 had beenj paid to the members for the f 'rst nine I months in 1928. And a no more im-! pressing illustration of the success of poultry raising than that of Draper, a small community in south Salt Lake county. At Draper, where all efforts pre concentrated on poultry, the producers pro-ducers are paid on an average of between be-tween $15,000 and $18,000 every week. Even one-half of this amount coming into Gunnison Valley would make a decided change in finances as compared com-pared with the present condition. Gunnison Valley, poultry experts declare, is ideally adapted for the raising of poultry. The climatic con-dit'ons, con-dit'ons, the sunny days, coupled with the fact that feed can be raised moderately mo-derately cheap, should be an incentive for every farmer to run a flock of , from 250 to 1000 chickens. j Centerfield and Axtell citizens have been invited to join Gunnison at the Friday night meeting. |
