Show Route 89 Favored For Mail Delivery Reconsideration of the attitude of members of the Kanab Lions club, was evidenced this week, when announcement an-nouncement was made that the club, almost to a man, declared that route 89 was more favored for mail transit to the south, than 91, by way of Cedar City. The club, together with citizens, at a mass meeting previously, had favored the Cedar City route, but after af-ter making further investigations and with other plans for boosting 89, went strongly on record favoring the route that would bring more good and would serve more clients by mail, than by the Cedar City way. A communication com-munication with Senator W. H. King, to Dr. A. J. Lewis, president of the Salina Lions club, indicated that postal pos-tal officials at Washington, D. C, were favoring the Cedar City route. A message was immediately dispatched dispatch-ed to Senator King by President Lewis, asking that no decision be made until all communities concern, ed be heard from. King replied by a wire that nothing would be done at this time, and asked that the matter be taken up and submitted to the postal department at Washington. Dr. J Lewis has already mailed a number of communications to clubs and civic organizations, asking immediate action ac-tion with proposals to the department at Washington. It is pointed out that the interests of' all can best be served through one mail contract, and by handling of the mail by one direct route, either from Manti or Marysvale. There are several sever-al communities that can be served, should the mail be routed by the way of Marysvale, that cannot be served should it be sent over the Cedar City-Mt. City-Mt. CarmelKanab proposed route, excepting ex-cepting these particular communities be put on a separate route or another contract. The communities and towns that would be benefitted by routing the mails over 89 would be Antimony, Escalante, Tropic, Widstoe, Kingston, Henderson ,Cannonville, Henrieville and Georgetown. Another important factor is being worked out, and in the event the Rio Grande is awarded the mail contract, it is proposed by that company to put on a fast train between Salt Lake and Marysvale. This train, it is said, would leave Salt Lake early in the morning, reaching Marysvale about noon of the same day. In this event, citizens along the line to be served as far south as Kanab, would get daily service. Realizing the importance of route 89, not only as a medium for a mail service, but the possibilities of sectu" ing a mail service from Kanab to Flagstaff and Phoenix, Ariz., Kanab Lions, will petition the postal authorities authori-ties to establish this new route. And they announce that a mail service over 89 would be a stepping stone to greater future relations and development develop-ment of the southern sections. And it would be a progressive step toward a through highway from Canada to Mexico, over route 89. Sentiment along route 89 is grow ing and every citizen residing along this now famous highway the highway high-way that carries you closer to Utah's scenic wonderlands than any other route, is daily gaining favor for it.
