Show Local Lions Club Favor Motor Ways Gunnison Lions club, at a special meeting held Monday evening of this week, and which was attended by a delegation from the Salina Lions club, went on record as favoring the granting grant-ing of the franchise for truck and bus rights to the Rio Grande Motor Ways, Inc., a subsidiary of the Denver & R'o Grande Western railroad. A strong resolution was prepared and forwarded forward-ed to the public utilities commission, urging that body to favor the recent "oplicant, implying that in doing so, no competitive operators would injure or impair the operations of the rail system which is now in vogue. The resolution, which was unani-mounsly. unani-mounsly. adopted, asks that the public utilities commission grant the franchise fran-chise for motor, bus, freight and pas-sensrer pas-sensrer service between Salt Lake City nd Marysvale, to the R;o Grande Mo-'or Mo-'or Ways,: Inc., in preference to any other applicants, which are, or might "ome before the commission. The Gunnison Lions club also went on record as favoring the passenger and express serivce extens'on as far as Salina, instead of terminating at Manti, as had been planned by the rail company. Dr. C. Leo Merrill, H. "E. Lewis and O. G. N:elson, officers of the Salina Sal-ina club, were present and took active parts in the discussion of the main topics. |
