Show Local Cagers Take Game From Wasatch Gunnison high school cagers "eased" "eas-ed" out of the cellar proposition Friday Fri-day night of last week, when they took Wasatch academy home for a decisive defeat, by a score of 36-23. Gunnison-now occupies fifth position in league standing, the percentage being .333, with two losses and one winner. However, the locals are gaining gain-ing in every way, and with each contest con-test better demonstrations are shown by the respective players. The quint was crippled when Duane Tollestrup suffered a broken nose in practice play, but hopes are held that the fast player will soon be seen on the floor again. In the battle with Wasatch at Mt. Pleasant, Eddie Christensen and Tony Villard were stars, Christensen being credited with 18 points, while Villard scored 12. Wasatch held the lead until the last quarter and " it looked hopeless for the Gunnison boys. . After pulling themselves together, to-gether, Gunnison walked into the 'melee"' with determination and closed clos-ed the fracus with a splendid victory, scoring. 20 points in the final. The second team of the Gunnison high also crowned themselves with victory. The smaller lads put a fierce battle, but the locals captured the honors by winning with a score of 14-15. - : , Tomorrow night basketball fans are offered an opportunity to see some real action. Ephraim, touted as one of the fastest teams in the division and holding second position in the league, will battle with the locals at the Gunnison high school gym. Both teams will be in fine trim and some real playing is expected. |
