Show Utah Red Cross to Hold Conference i Red Cross workers in the state of Utah -will convene at Salt Lake on October 3rd for the annual regional conference of chapters to discuss the i future program of the organization, j Twenty-seven chapters in the state . have been invited to send delegates. The outstanding feature of the con-i con-i ference will be the appearance of J. Arthur Jeffers, newdy appointed I manager of the Pacific area of the j American Red Cross, who has but re-i re-i cently come west to take up his duties du-ties at the San Francisco headquar-: headquar-: tersters. Mr. Jeffers was formerly I manager of a group of states on the Atlantic coast, but is familiar with j western conditions as he was organ- lzer and first chairman of the Pueblo, Pu-eblo, Colorado, Chapter in 1917. He is an experienced disaster worker and was in personal touch with the gigantic gigan-tic relief operations carried on by the Red Cross in Florida and in the Mississippi Mis-sissippi Valley. He will address the delegates on the subjects, "The Future Fu-ture Program of the American Red Cross," and "Red Cross Disaster Relief Re-lief in Action." Miss Matilda Harris, director of Red Cross Nursing service for the Pacific area, will also be one of the conference speakers. Miss Harris succeeds Miss Dorothy Ledyard as nursing director and will be meeting the Utah workers for the first time. She will speak on "How the Red Cross Nurse Can Cooperate With Other Agencies." The Red Cross conference comes the day immediately preceding the Utah State Conference of Social Work which is to be held October 4th and 5th. This will be followed later by the semi-annual conference of the L. D. S. church, so it is anticipated that a very great number of persons from all over the state interested In welfare and religious work will assemble as-semble in Salt Lake that week. There will be a general Red Cross session in connection with the state conference on Tuesday afternoon, October 4th, at which time Mr. Jel-fers Jel-fers will speak on "The Social Case Work Aspects of the Peace-time Program," Pro-gram," and Miss Eva Hance, director of Junior Red Cross for the Pacific coast states, will speak on "The Junior Ju-nior Red Cross as An Experiment in International Understanding."
