Show REAL PURPOSE OF "PEACE MOVEMENTS" Characterizing efforts of certain, so-called so-called "peace movements" us insidious ttempts of radicals to gain control of United States, the Americanism commission of the American Legion Is warning members of that organization against participation. "We know that war is terrible," says a bulletin just Issued by the Legion's commission. Many brave lives have been sacrificed in defense of American Ameri-can principles and ideals. Are we going go-ing to allow desecration of these lives by a lot of extreme pacifists who hide behind the cloak of the Deity?" the bulletin asks. , Garland W. Powell, director of the Americanism commission, prepared the bulletin, in which he says that the Womens' Peace society, the Womens' Peace Union of the Western Hemisphere, Hem-isphere, and the Fellowship of Youth for Peace are bodies which, In exacting exact-ing anti-war pledges from members, will preclude such Americans from participation par-ticipation in defense of the United States, should It be drawn into war. He says that the efforts of these organizations or-ganizations are used by radicals as tools, and that, working in fertile fields among the youth and Bible classes of the nation, they are gaining strength. He urges that every American who learns of such meetings attend, and If possible present the patriotic viewpoint view-point of America. ". . . They are the tools of the bolsheviks, the revolutionary radicals and the communists," the bulletin says. "Nothing would suit them better bet-ter than to have all Americans sign pledges of Uils kind. Then they would wnlk In, seize our country and destroy our Institutions. . . If there ever was a time in the history of our nation na-tion that action is needed, it is now when sucli anti-American movements as the one described are in progress. Show these people that we have no place for them In our institutions and government," the bulletin concludes. |
