Show Crowd Flees Before Flood Arrives Sioux City, Iowa More than 500 families were forced from their homes last Saturday night and early Sunday by flood waters of the Floyd river, and damage which probably will run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars was done. At 5 o'clock this afternoon the crest of the flood had passed, and a large section of the city was covered with water ranging from a few inches to seven and eight feet deep. Rescue parties worked all night with row-boats, row-boats, rescuing hundreds from flood-bound flood-bound homes. The Illinois Central, Northwestern and Great Northern railroads each lost several hundred feet of trades. Late Monday it was stated that' the Illinois Central Cen-tral had made repairs which would enable trains to reach the city from that direction, the first since Friday evening. The flood waters of Big Sioux river and Dry Creek, which raged through the streets of Hawarden Friday night and Saturday, Satur-day, have receded, and no further damage is anticipated. |
