Attorney General Harry Daugherty, intimate friend and political adviser of the Harding administration, was forced out of office of-fice Friday by the fire of a senate investigating committee, which prompeted President Coolidge to ask his resignation. The man who more than any other affected the nomination of the late President Harding went out after a long struggle in which he defied the senate and house committee to find him guilty of wrongdoing in office and opposed the counsel of senatorial senator-ial friends to resign his post voluntarily. volun-tarily. The ouster of the attorney general came with dramatic suddenness after af-ter weeks of speculation as to how long President Coolidge would resist the demands that he put him out. Many of Coolidge's intimate friends and numerous Republican leaders in and out of congress persuaded per-suaded Coolidge insistently to act for the good of the party. Even indirect methods were employed em-ployed to indicate to Daugherty that it would please the president if he got out. But Daugherty remained adamant. He would leave, he said only if guilt of misconduct in office were proved against him or Coolidge personally demanded it. Attorney General Daugherty's let-ter let-ter of resignation, nnnounced from the White House Friday, follows : "My Dear Mr. President: "I hereby acknowledge receipt of your letter of March 27 by the hand of your secretary requesting my resignation re-signation as attorney general of the United State. "Solely out of difference and in compliance therewith I hereby tender my resignation.
