Show Mexican Wounded In Shooting Scrape B. Perez and J. Santehes, two Mexicans Mex-icans employed in the beet fields near Axtell, had an altercation last Thursday Thurs-day evening and in the mix-up Santehes Sant-ehes was slightly wounded in the groin by. a bullet which was fierd from a gun in the hands of Perez. The wound received by Santehes is not regarded as serious, as it did not enter deeply into the flesh. Perez, it is claimed, did the shooting in self defense, charging that his antagonist attempted to stab him and showed where his overcoat had been cut. Immediately Im-mediately after the shooting Santehes was taken to the Salina hospital and after the bullet had been extracted I the wounded man walked to his camp near Axtell. The controversy which led up to the shooting, is said to have started over a contract which the two men were interested in. The men were digging j beets and in a settlement of the money the quarrel started which resulted re-sulted in the two men coming to blows and the shooting. Deputy Sheriff Carlson, following an investigation of the case by Deputy County Attorney Edwards, placed Perez under arrest and he was taken ! to Manti and locked in jail pending j further investigation. |
