Show Big Features For Livestock Show Preliminary arrangements lor the flftn annual lnlermountain Livestock j show, to be given in Salt Lake City, i April 3, -i. 5 and 6, indicate that tho : exhibitions this year will by far sur-I sur-I pass any of past years. Dr. R. N. .Mead, who lias been ppointed director, direc-tor, has received assurances that at least sixty-eight carloads of purebred cattle, sheep and swine will be sent in from all states of the intermoun-tain intermoun-tain and Pacific group, and that in addition to this there will be numerous numer-ous dairy products and educational displays. The premiums will run over $5,-000. $5,-000. Exhibitors for the premiums have been classified as follows: Individual In-dividual fat cattle, carload fat cattle, carload feeder cajttle, carload fat lambs, carload fat hogs, Herefords, Shorthorns, dairy cattle, breeding swine, breeding sheep, and boys and girls' club work. The judges, who are to be named at a later date, are to be selected from the best authorities authori-ties in the country. This will be the first year that dairy displays have been made a special spe-cial feature of the show. Increased interest in development of the dairy industry throughout the West is responsible re-sponsible for this step, and every effort ef-fort is to be made.to bring the dairy displays up to the highest possible standard for the initial year. Special prizes are to be awarded as an inducement to increase the edu-:ational edu-:ational features of the show. Calves, lambs and pigs raised by the boys and girls' clubs of the different states are to be given special attention this year, handsome prizes being offered in this department. In addition to the department of agriculture, the co-operation of the Utah Agricultural college and the American Breeders' association has been offered in the educational division. divi-sion. Special classes of instruction are ,to be arranged by the Agricultural Agricul-tural college. The committee in charge has announced an-nounced that a program of entertainments entertain-ments for visiting exhibitors will be outlined. While detailed plans h "'o not been completed, tentative r-rangements r-rangements have boon made for a banquet at the Salt Lake Commer-ial Commer-ial club aud Chamber of Commerce, This will be in the nature of a "good fellowship" dinner, to be attended by the visiting livestock men and Salt Lake City business men. Reports from all parts of the in-lermountain in-lermountain territory show that a greater interest in the show is manifest mani-fest this year than ever before The ntries to date assure the director a ,otal of at least sixty-eight carloads of stock, while the highest total heretofore here-tofore was thirty-seven carloads. The itock entered so far is of the highest quality obtainable in the states to be represented. The committee has announced that extensive newspaper and poster advertising ad-vertising will begin the early part of the year in San Francisco, Seattle, Spokane, Portland, Denver, Butte, Cheyenne, Ogden, and other cities of the West.
