Show Pea Growers Will Propogate Seed Those of the stockholders of the Gunnison Valley Canning company, having made the initial payment for their stock, will be supplied with pea seeds for planting this spring. This announcement was made by C. H. Childs, secretary for the company, yesterday. The seed has bsen ordered or-dered and will be on hand in a few clays, and the company officials trust those wanting the seed will make an early requisition. While it is not intended to raise peas in the valley on an extensive scale during the coming season, the planting being urged at this time is for the purpose of propagating seed for the season of 1923. And, too, it is intended to give the farmers and those who will go into the pea raising rais-ing business, some idea of caring for the crop, to study the adaptation of the soil and generally educate in the art of pea culture. The plans mapped out at the organization or-ganization of the canning company, regarding the erection of the plant, has been abandoned for this year. By waiting until later In this season or at the opening of the 1923 season, a big saving in machinery and building material will be made. When the plans have been completed it will not take very long to have the factory and everything in running order, and this will be accomplished by the time the crop is ready for harvesting in 1923. Mr. Childs stated that the officers of the local company would spend considerable time during the present season in visiting the many factories in this and adjoining counties with a view to familiarizing themselves with the latest methods of cannine and the modern methods used, intending in-tending to have the Gunnison plant one of the best in the state. |
