Show New Water Rate Fixed For Coming Season Beginning April 1 Rate Will Be $12 Per Annum City Licenses Are to BeJVIade More Equal. The water rate for users in the city of Gunnison beginning the first of the coming month and ending March 31, 1921, was placed on a flat rate for culinary purposes at $12 per year at the regular meeting of the city council last Saturday evening. At this rate those having stock and dependent on the city water for the care of such, will have the privilege of watering not to exceed ten head of stock. .. Stock in excess of ten head will be charged for at the rate of one cent per head per day or thirty cents per month for each and every head. The new rate established by the members of the city council, just double that of the past year, generally gener-ally meets with the public approval. Much discussion was created on the proposition and some members were favoring a higher rate in order that, the water fund, could be put right. There is a deficiency of nearly $50 00 in this fund and with the fact that a sinking fund of $1,720 must be created cre-ated each year to retire the bonds, it was found necessary to raise' the water rate. It is believed, however, that with the income resulting from the water tax and other resources the system can be maintained. The matter of a sewer system tor the city was widely discussed among the important needs of the city. With the conditions now prevailing with open privies, overflowing cesspools, cess-pools, and other contaminating features feat-ures that would be eliminated by the installation of the sewer system, the proposition of submitting the matter to the public was heartily approved. Not alone was the sanitation from a sewer standpoint discussed, but the city board of health was instructed to make an investigation of corrals. Reports were made that in some parts of the city corrals and hog pens were in a deplorable condition and were allowed to go uncleanod in direct di-rect violation of the ordinance. The use of the city park and the grandstand for sheep pasture and protection was referred to a committee commit-tee for investigation At a special meeting of the council coun-cil which. will be held March 20, the committee on licoiiies will make, a special report. Th'j license committee commit-tee has been workir.i? on a revision and it has been found, that I hey ato not uniform and th? eommittoo wiU make its report with a view to equalizing equal-izing matters. |
