Show Meaning of "Selah." The word Selah, which occurs so frequently in the Psalms, is usually believed be-lieved to be a direction to the musicians mu-sicians who chanted the Psalms in the temple. Mattheson, the great musical critic, wrote a book on the subject, in which, after rejecting a number of theories, he came to the conclusion that it is equivalent to the modern "da capo," and is a direction that the air or song is to be repeated from the commencement com-mencement to the part where the word is placed. |
