Show DEPORTATION HEARINGS BEGUN Arizona Citizens Accused of Kidnaping Striking Miners. Tombstone, Ariz. The first day of :ourt in the trials of 210 men, charged ivith kidnaping in connection with the importation of 1918 striking copper miners and their sympathizers from Bisbee, Arizona, in 1917, ended abruptly abrupt-ly Monday when County Attorney Robert N. French declared he was ;onsidering dismissing the charges against three defendants because of ibsent witnesses. Indications are that the defense will ask separate trials for practically all :he defendants. The state charges the defendants tvith putting into effect a kidnaping jonspiracy to deprive the deportees of their lawful rights. Besides the defendants, de-fendants, it was said by the presenting prese-nting attorney that more than 1000 persons participated in the deportations, deporta-tions, rounding up the strikers and sympathizers, loading them into "box ;ars and sending them across the state aoundaries into New Mexico, where uter the deportees were cared for in a great camp provisioned and cared for by United States soldiers. |
