Show Gunnison Team Beaten In Season's First Game The Gunnison baseball team made its debut for the 1920 season at Richfield Rich-field last Wednesday and came near annexing its first attempt. In a battle bat-tle that was interesting the home boys had the Richfieldians guessing whether they would hold the honors at home, but when the smoke had cleared the tally sheet showed the score 7 to 9 with Gunnison holding the short end. Several hundred fans were at the game and Gunnison was well represented. Considering the fact that the Gun-ison Gun-ison boys had never any team practice prac-tice this year, they all made a splendid splen-did showing. Another drawback and perhaps one that kept them from bringing a victory back was the fact that several of the regulars were missing, and it was necessary to substitute sub-stitute younger and less experienced players. Fredrickson and Sorenson did the twirling for Gunnison and considering the fact that neither has worked out extensively, both held the Sevier county lads -down to few hits. Harold Halverson was back of the bat for Gunnison. Sanders, Edwards Ed-wards and all of the old team who played in Wednesday's game, showed spiendid form. ' It will be ten days or more before the schedule of the Southern Utah league opens and by that time it is expected that Gunnison ! will have her organization complete and ready to enter the fray with a determination determina-tion to win everything and lose nothing. |
