Show Pioneer Resident Called to Reward After an illness lasting nearly six weeks, A. U. Melquist, one of Gunnison's Gunni-son's well known residents, passed away at his home last Monday morning. morn-ing. Since the death of his wife some four months ago, Mr. Melquist has grieved considerable at his loss, and this, together with his advanced age, is given as tho cause of death. ' A. U. Melquist was 74 years of age when the final call came for him. Born In Sweden, he came to Utah in the early days, settling in Gunnison, and he has since resided in the valley until his death. He was a member of the L. D. S. church, and for many years past has been the custodian of the chapel. Impressive funeral services wer? held last Tuesday evening from the Relief Society hall. C. E. Ferre had the services in charge, and he was assisted by Hyrum Christensen and Adolph Peterson. Bishop E. L. Swal-berg Swal-berg and John Larson, warm friends of the deceased, both paid high tributes trib-utes to tho life of the one who had been called. A selected quartet rendered ren-dered several appropriate songs, and following the church services a large concourse of friends followed the remains re-mains to the cemetery, where final interment was held. |
