Show GOOD MEASURE KILLED. 'For the purpose of giving thie citizens of the several counties of the state the privilege of "keeping, in touch" with the proceedings and celebrations of the boards of county commissioners.-a right tflat every taxpayer tax-payer has, a bill was introduced in the lower house of the present session ses-sion of the legislature, designed to gie this informatoin. B.ut, alas, ' it went the. wav of "all good bills" ' and died in the horning. Through . the introduction of the measure, however, several amusing incidents ' ' came out and exposed the "bright ' lights." Representative Peterson of our own county insinuated that very few people read the county newspa- 'pers. He is. wrong, and if the' legislature legis-lature had those who read the newspapers news-papers making our laws the state ' would be better off. Mr.' Harris of Davis county, a supporter sup-porter of the measure, struck the right cord when he said that most of the country newspapers do a great deal of charity -work, and they must have a little financial consideration ' from some source. Representative McShane of Beaver coun;y end Representative Seegmil-lor Seegmil-lor of Kane, both vitaliy against the ' bill, massed their forces and the amendment, which virtually killed the meaning of the original bill, was carried. ! |
