Show SCHOOLS A HII MOSEY. Tlie Alniifilily Dollar In G'lnniiifir Several of Our Si-lnioln. D. C. Hubbard, County Supt. of District Schools, informed us a few days ago that the absence of funds in the treasury would probably result re-sult in an early closing of the schools at Willard. Several other school districts in Box Elder County are in the same undesirable financial condition. It is astonishing when we come to contemplate what a mighty ; power that medium of exchange we ' call "money" wields over things intellectual, even controlling the pursuits of learning. Money, the real value of which is so trilling, has become and continues a power only by the consent of man. But has it not gone beyond the bounds originally intended and entered the real in of usurpation usurpa-tion when its absence can pluck the fruit of knowledge from the outstretched out-stretched hands of our little ones, carrying with its departure the light ol increased intelligence which is so sadly needed to illuinin.ite their pathway and guide them safely through life? Surely man has set up a molten image- the "almighty dollar," as Washington Irving so aptly puts it and has invested it with the power of a little god. |
