Show FIRE DESTROYS OLD LANDMARK I'M re, starting from unknown causes, destroyed the old Co-op. last Monday night. The blaze was first discovered about 10:30 and before suliicient water could be obtained the interior of the building was gutted gut-ted and the bare walls only remain of the historic old structure. Workmen Work-men werj in the building as late as six o'clock Monday- evening and it ,'s believed that a cigar or cigarette stump carelessly thrown among the debris, resulted in starting the blaze Tho damage to the building is placed at $1,500, and $900 was covored by insurance. The building was owned by Dennis Den-nis Beauregard and was under lease to Albert Christensen, wh'o was operating op-erating a seed cleaning plant. The I seed cleaning mills, motors and some I grain were a total loss. kOnly a few days before the fire a carload of alfalfa al-falfa esed was removed from the building. In tho destruction of the old Coop. Co-op. Gunnison loses one of the oldest J landmarks. The building was erected erect-ed in 1K71 and for thirty years was ' the leading store of South Sanpete I county. Mr. Beauregard is consid-! consid-! ering rebuilding on the lot and if so, will erect a modern building. I |
