Show Celebrate Golden Wedding. . Mr. and Mrs. Austin Kearns of this . city, who were married in Gunnison . by Mr. Kearns' father, Bishop Ham-. Ham-. ilton II. Kearns, January 29, 1865, ' celebrated their golden wedding last i Friday. The gathering numbered , some fifty members of the family and was an occasion of rejoicing. Mr. and Mrs. Kearns were remembered each with a gold watch, presented by their children. Austin Kearns and wife have been among the foremost citizens in the binding up of this valley. Being among the pioneers of this section, Mr. Kearns was a participant in the defense against Indian raids, in which his only brother was killed in Salina canyon. He was born in Iowa, September Sep-tember 2, 1845, and his wife in Denmark, Den-mark, July 5, 1846. Mr. Kearns is a member of the High Council in South Sanpete stake. Mrs. Kearns came to Utah by handcart train and has been an active church member ever since, serving in the Relief society as a teacher upward of 38 years. They have reared a family of ten children, namely A. William Kearns, Andrew II. Kearns, Mrs. Simpson W. Roper, John M. Kearns, Mrs. Charles E. Ferre and Elmer E. Kearns, all of this city; Mrs. M. Mahaley Martell.of Spanish Fork; Nelce F. Kearns, of Coalville; Mrs. Fred N. Swalberg and Mr. Newman Beck, both deceased. Also numbered in their posterity are 37 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. |
