At 10 o'clock the j pie, having gathered al the Tabernacle, the procession ;w formed by the marshal of the day as follows: 1st. Cily Council; '2nd, veterans over o() vears of age: ;ird. Willard brass band; -Uh. choir; oth, citizens on foot, followed by vehicles. The band bad nearly reached the cemetery ceme-tery before the last carriages left town. On arriving and being called to order, the choir pang and prayer was oll'ered by Jno. J. Ward. The next was si nging and opening speech by William Lowe. J. N. liarker then read an original poem prepared for the occasion, after which J. S. Perry, orator of the day, delivered his oration and did himself much credit. Thirty minutes were then spent in decorating decorat-ing the graves, when the people marched from the silent city of the dead to the old cemetery, where the graves were strewn wit h flowers. M. W. Dalton then offered the benediction. At 2 p. in. the people assembled at the Tabernacle and were highly edilieed hy J. J. Chandler's lecture. Willard always celebrates Memorial Memo-rial Day and the citizens may well feel proud of the way it is done. Last Saturday the Democrats met and elected J. j. Ward, J. S. Dudley Dud-ley and Nepbi Brunker as members of the county convention to be held Saturday; D. 0. Hubbard and 0. If. Dudley as alternates. LoOKEK-ON". Willard, May 30. |
