Show iij 1. 1 i i More Volunteers Wednesday noon saw the departure of three more recruits from Gunnison namely Miles Madsen, Mina Beaure-and Beaure-and Price Cornwall. A big crowd collected to see them off for the colors, tii.e band w 1th a goodly number of t-ltlzens going with them to the depot (or the final good-bye, A rousing farewell party in their, honor was given at Peterson hall Monday night, when the voluteers seated with their parents and relatives rela-tives on the stand were honored by a demoustratlon of choice patriotic sentiment from among the best talent in the city. Inspiring music was dispensed dis-pensed by the band under the direction direc-tion of B. C. Swalberg. 11. A. Kearns was the first speaker, remarking at the outset "If signs do not fail, these occasions will be frequent. fre-quent. " Mr. Kearns commended the recruits for their courage to enlist and took occasion to point out the part all citizens may take in providing provid-ing against shortage of food stuffs necessary for the conflict. "We are going onto victory," he said "for there is no question but that we are right." Deliberation as well as fortitude for-titude Is needed in our present crisis was the speaker's view in conclusion. con-clusion. Mrs. jj, W. Jones read "Tears for the Living Liv-ing and Tears for the Dead," followed follow-ed by the song "Nephews of Uncle 8am" from E. L. Swalberg, who sang ' also "Sentinel Asleep." Mrs. Ellis Merkley recited in conclusion, "The Maid of Servllla." It being the eve of the 19th anniversary anniver-sary of the Battle of Manila bay oc-cassion oc-cassion was taken to pay compliment to the late Admiral Dewey.
