Show ARKANSAS GOES DRY. Legislature Passes Prohibition Bill Effective Firtft of Year. Little JRock, Ark. A bill providing Cor state-wide prohibition in Arkansas Arkan-sas was signed Saturday by Gov. G. W. Hays. The measure as amended prohibits the granting of further saloon sa-loon licenses' for 1915, hut does not disturb those already granted. Prohibition Pro-hibition becomes effective January 1, 1916. Forestalling the effect in Pulaski county, Judge Joe Asher granted the petition of Little Rock saloonmen for licenses forty minutes before the measure was signed by the governor. Fifty saloons opened immediately. The Little Rock saloons had been closed since December 31 pending the circulation of petitions for their opening. |
