Show A Trying Ortlenl. A graduate of a theological seminary semina-ry in one of the eastern states says that in that institution the candidates for the ministry were obliged to undergo un-dergo a very trying ordeal. Each of thein was compelled to preach a short extempore sermon, in the chapel, to the bishop and one of the professors, who formed the sole congregation, and who occasionally interrupted and criticised the sermon. One day a candidate, can-didate, a young man hardly out of his teens, who was by no means a ready speaker, overwhelmed by nervousness, began stammering: "I will divide my congregation iuto two the converted and the unconverted." This was too much for the bishop's sense of humor. "I think, sir," he exclaimed, "that as there are only two of us, yo u had better bet-ter say which is which." |
