The man of temperate habits ; lays a sure foundation for usefulness useful-ness and success, and those who violate the law of temperance are sure to reap the bitter fruits in after life. We should not only be temperate in abstaining from intoxicating in-toxicating drinks but we should be temperate in speech and learn to guard our tongues. Many pains are caused by intemperate tongues, and wounds have been inflicted which time could not eradicate. How many a virtuous maiden has hung her head and blushed with shame because of vile slander's tongue, which has foully assailed her; and how many worthy young men have gone to the bad because their reputation had been impugned. impugn-ed.
