Show Bacon's Place in History. Francis Bacon was the foremost philosopher, statesman and essayist of the sixteenth century. His influence was felt more by succeeding generations genera-tions than in his own time. He was never able to lie financially at ease, though he held many positions of trust. He was the close legal adviser to both Queen Elizabeth and her successor, James. He attained the position of attorney at-torney general after waiting for it 20 years. However, he was not idle; as many of his essays were setting a new standard of reasoning which led scientists scien-tists into more practical results. lie was born at York house, in the Strand, London ; was delicately reared and surrounded with every luxury. He never found a way to live other thaa his rich and titled relatives did, yet, withal, he was able to lead the minds of his contemporaries into constructive philosophy after centuries of immature generalization. |
