Show YOUNG STARS GIVEN CHANCE Western League Encourages Beginners to Take Up Baseball as Profession Adopt New Rules. The Western league has stepped to the front in encouraging young players play-ers to take up baseball as a profession. profes-sion. A rule adopted at a recent meeting compels each of the eight teams in the league to keep six players who have never played in anything higher than Class B ball on their rosters. The teams are allowed but 15 men, and the rule will be an inducement to managers mana-gers to develop young players. The new rule applies to old players play-ers the same as new ones joining the clubs. Only nine men with previous engagements in league of higher standing stand-ing than Class A may be carried. car-ried. Each club may carry five pitchers, pitch-ers, two of whom must be youngsters. Thirty full games for lnflelders and outfielders, 15 games for catchers and ten for pitchers will put them out of the youngster class. To enforce the "youngster" rule managers who refuse to get rid of old players above tho limit will have their games forfeited until they obey the ruling. |
