Show SUGAR FACTORY TALK AGAIN. ... A meeting at the city hall last night was attended by a goodly number of representative farmers and business men to hear a proposition for the building of a sugar factory. The promoters had in view a district dis-trict coverin gthis valley and south to Aurora but they soon found out that the people here are set firmlv against considering a new factory outside of Gunnison valley region, of Itself an empire of 25,000 acres available farm land with fully 19,000 acres now under cultivation. In the discussion it developed that an assurance of not less than 5,000 acres would be given to sugar beet culture only on condition that the sugar plant comes to this immediate locality. This was taken under advisement ad-visement and another meeting will be held later. The promoters have in view eventual even-tual community ownership of the ' proposed factory and to that end in-1 vite the beet raisers to acquire stock in the enterprise. Associated with F. W. Chambers of Ogden, T. N. Jensen Jen-sen and James E. Hart of Salt Lake, and Dod Jolly of Montague, Cal., all of whom were present at the meeting, are Judge Chidister and Pres. R. W. Young of Richfield. They propose organizing under the style, "Farmers' Union Sugar Co." |
