Show Wont aa Irish Famine Looks Like. I visited the Island of Achill, in Con-nemara. Con-nemara. I trust I may never again have to enduro the agony I endured that day seeing men, women and children porisliing all about me, without with-out the possibility of giving relief. All of the food of every kind on the island had been consumed. In more than one instance I saw a family feeding on boiled nettles. The next day I was driving with a farmer, a gentleman of wealth and position, on the main laud. Talking over the misery 1 had witnessed, wit-nessed, he said, "And yet I cannot say , I have lost a single sheep on the mountain." My observation was prompt: "Lucky for you 1 am not one of your tenants. You would have lost many." S. C. Hall's Book. |
