Show THEY USE JUDGMENT. The Tribune is not in the habit of saying complimentary things of the people of Utah, so when it does depart from its beaten track and gives the people credit for possessing good, sound sense, its remarks should be cut out and framed. Here is one of these rare gems taken from Wednesday's Trib: Some pretty tough citizens may pull through on a strictly partisan county and city ticket, but they can not hold out when the test comes for naming delegates to a constitutional convention to make the fundamental "law 'lit tlTe" TTew State. People may be very strong partisans, but we feel sure from the way we have tested public sentiment mat, 11 an utterly unworthy un-worthy Democrat is nominated in any municipal ward, and against him is a first-class man, the Democrats Demo-crats of that ward will support the better man. On the other hand, if an utterly characterless Republican Republi-can receives a nomination, and the Democrats in that ward name a first-class man we do not care how much influence may be brought to bear, when the final result shall be counted at the polls the Democrat will be elected, and it should be so. |
