Working of the U.S. department of agriculture aud Prof. K. J. Evans of the state Agri cultural college Mr. Working, with headquarters in Denver; is the government agent of faro, management investigation for Colorado", Utah and Wyoming, aod Professor Evans is the appointed chief operator forth- 6tateof Utah. These gentlemen explaiued that the purpose of their visit here was to arouse interest in a proposal for Sanpete San-pete county to assist in qiaintai ning a farm instructor under direction of the management named- Tbe government govern-ment appropriation, it was further explained, ex-plained, would cover less an half the expense of keeping such a demonstrator demon-strator in the field and should one be engaged for the year it would be necessary that the county guarantee a sum of $750 to make up the deficiency de-ficiency needed to pay the salary Required, After going over the proposition and showing it to be that of co operating oper-ating with the farmer in methods of demonstration on the farm rather than in the hail, a unaaimous vote was taken favoring the appropriation of the sum named if the couity com-U-iseioaera saw fit. Madsen, phairmau of the board, being present was asked oy Mr. wording to can a ' special meeting of the county com-piissioaerB com-piissioaerB for action the following day, but Mr. Madsen preferred waiting wait-ing until the regular session and if the desire was general among the peo ptoof the county the matter would be taken up favorably so far as he was concerned The plan is to innoculate ideas of better farm management into the farmers minds, as under present conditions con-ditions considerable loss is entailed that might be avoided under more experienced direction such as would be afforded by keeping a man in touch all the year round with the (armere over the county. The expense ex-pense would bo gain and not loss , according to the statements made by Messrs. Working and Evans whose proposal looks feasible and one that would benefit the farmers in general, |
