Packed in piano boxes and evidently ready for shipment, ship-ment, a quantity of rifles and ammunition, ammu-nition, believed to be destined for "Venezuelan revolutionists, was discovered dis-covered at Franklin on Monday. The rifles are said to be a part of a consignment con-signment of 15,000 Mauser weapons shipped from Xew York to St. Louis and back to Franklin, billed as pianos, and packed to weather the trip to South America. The filibuster suspect steamer Nanticoke was lying near Franklin, apparently awaiting a chance to take the consignment on board. The rifles and ammunition., it is said, were shipped first from Belgium to New York and several days ago the rumored plot to send them west and from there back to the south Atlantic At-lantic coast for shipment to the revolutionists, revo-lutionists, was reported at Washington, Washing-ton, and orders were sent out to watch for suspicious craft. The collectors col-lectors of all South Atlantic ports have been ordered to prevent the Nanticoke and (he tug Despatch from clearing. |
