Show CONGRESSMAN ALLEN DEAD. Representative From Maine Who Was Private Secretary to Thos. B. Reed. Washington. Representative Amos Allen of Maine died of pneumonia, at his apartments here, early Monday, following several days' illness. Representative Allen was born in Waterboro, York county, Me., March 17, 1837, and was graduated from Bow-doin Bow-doin college in I860. He was private secretary to Speaker Thomas B. Reed in the fifty-first, fifty-fourth and fifty-fifth fifty-fifth congress, and was elected to the fifty-sixth congress November 6, 1S99, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation res-ignation of Spepker Reed. He had served continuously since, but was not re-elected last fall. |
