Show SPLENDID REUNION OF OLD FOLKS AT CENTERF1ELD. The custom in Utah of honoring the old people is a spleudid thing. Centerfield has kept it annually the past nine years, in the mouth of February, printed invitations having been sent out and suitable badges supplied the honored guests on each occasion. These serve as keepsakes keep-sakes of the several events and are highly prized by the recipients generally. The old folks over in Centerfield had one of the best parties Friday afternoon and evening lust ever given in their honor. It was the ninth annual an-nual custom in the ward, and was certainly a great credit to the committee com-mittee of young people in charge. Chris and George Peterson gave their utmost attention in directing every want and were assisted most splendidly splendid-ly by the bevy of young waiters. The whole affair was made interesting from start to finish and will be long remembered by the honored guests. Covers were laid for 4 guests past 80 years of age, 18 past 70, 3-1 past 60, and 62 past 50. The banquet abounded with good things to eat acd was served in dilicious style. The guests Beemed to enjoy to the fullest extent the social opportunity afforded at the seating as well as the rich bounties that were so temptingly laid. Following the banquet impromptu speeches, songs and recitations kept all of the company in good humor while awaiting tbe arrival of the musicians engaged for tbe dance. A number of reminiscences were interestingly inter-estingly told by pioneers and not a moment of time wasted. It was at this stage wheu Mrs. Joseph Howard was introduced as a pioneer who came to Utah in '48. She has recently come to Centerfield from Salt Lake City with her husband, to make their future home in this valley The dancing was also an enjoyable feature, the meetinghouse being comfortably com-fortably filled with a sociable crowd-A crowd-A luncheon with coffee was served about ten o'clock and the dance kept to the midnight hour. The affair was begun in the afternoon after-noon with a program suited to the occasion, both English and Scandinavian Scandi-navian selections being rendered. This part of the reunion was immensely immense-ly enjoyed and proved a splendid means of putting the company in good spirit for the enjoyment which followed. Three cheers for the committee, the music, and all who helped to make this the Old Folks' Ninth Annual Reunion Re-union of Centerfield a success. |
