Show STAKE MEMBERS INCREASING Reports of Progress In Every Department Depart-ment Presented at Annual Conference Confer-ence of Women's Relief Society. Salt Lake City. Five hundred delegates dele-gates were present at the opening session ses-sion of the -(T"-:""i"''l : ' ' ference of the Women's Relief society, in tue Assenioly nan, on .m . . . meetings were held on the opening day, morning and afternoon. President. Emmeline B. Wells, in a short address, called the opening session ses-sion to order at 10 o'clock. A response in behalf of the visiting delegates was made by Mrs. Johannah Jensen of Wasatch stake. Joseph F. Smith, jr., spoke on "Genealogy." Ho urged members of the society to keep a complete reoord of their families, and emphasized the importance ol such records. Mrs. Julina L. Smith, counselor to President Wells, also spoke in regard to family records. A violin solo by Miss Romania Hyde closed the morning session. In his address at the afternoon session ses-sion President Joseph F. Smith declared de-clared that the Women's Relief society is the most important organization in the church. He also made reference to ihe seventieth anniversary of the !ounding of the society, Mach 17. Ad. dresses were also made by Mrs. Rebecca Re-becca Standring, Alpine stake; Mrs. Minerva Knowlton, Davis stake; Mrs. Sarah Slahl, Box Elder stake; Mrs. Leonora T. Harrington, Granite stake Besides stake reports, two interest ing talks were given at the morning meeting on the 5th. Mrs. Susa Youns Gates of the general board and Mrs. Marilla Daniels of Provo spoke. Mrs. Marilla Daniels of Provo is ons f the few persons now living personally per-sonally acquainted with the Prophet Joseph Smith. In her address she told of the many fine qualities of the celebrated cele-brated founder of the church, and of his wonderful perseverance and mental energy. The principal speech of the afternoon after-noon was made by Dr. James E. Tal mage. Mr. Talmage spoke of the wonderful won-derful work ficrnmiiliRhpd bv the Re lief society and the renown it haa achieved. Membership in the stakes is increasing increas-ing rapidly and attendance at tha meeting's has been so large that the halls are overcrowded, according to reports re-ports by stake presidents at the last day's session of the Woman's Reliet society. Mrs. Mary Ollerton, Parowan stake; Mrs. Jennie Potter, Carbon stake, and Mrs. Hannah Crosby, Pan-guitch Pan-guitch stake, gave details. |
