Show ANENT NEW TABERNACLE, Appealing in this issue of The Gazette Ga-zette is a notice from the bishopric of Gunnison ward, calling a meeting of the general pubiic for the special purpose pur-pose of discussing whether or not the erection of a new ward tabernacle should be commenced. There is no quoation about the need of Buch a strncture for the ward. For mors than a quartet of a century has the R.S.Hall, first intended chiefly as an amusement place, been utilised for worship purpose and for a general gener-al meeting place. Is it not high time Gunnison ward should take a step up ; from this condition and provide a place of worship in keeping with the times and that of the civic progress we are so proud of? The present general meeting place besides being altogether inadequate for the purpose, eopecially the Sunday Sun-day school auxiliary, has not the least semblance of b church. A modern chapel would provide a place not only on-ly euited for public worship but that of auxiliary needs by supplying class rooms. This would be au impstus to the ward's growth, without question a desirable end. While it is admit-: admit-: ted that not enough people are attend-sug attend-sug church service to fill the building already at command, it must be conceded con-ceded that an attractive chapel edifice such a8 the one proposed would over y come this objection, commanding more church-goers by its grandeur as nothing els9 would. But aside from the actual need for a chapel a sense of pride would suggest that in this respect we rise to a level with our neighoring wards north and south of the Gunnison valley region. We can da it. We should do it. Let past mistakes, if the failures which have attended former attempts ma y so be termed, go and take hold this time with renewed earnestness and in systematic order, The Bite is owe -ed by the ward, the plan for a commodious com-modious and up-to-date tabernacla is secured, approved by the general authorilies of the church and paid for. Why, then, net all turn in and help with a united will this renewed movement for a suitable place of worship wor-ship and ba in the van of progress in this particular aa in the case of our public Bchool and that of civic needs. : Saturday evening, then, in the R. S.Hall, will be an opportunity for every one in Gunnison to lend encouragement en-couragement for the building of a new ward tabernacle, Be present and all push hard for the movement. |
