Show ACCEPT UTAH SILVER SERVICE Governor Presents Magnificent Silver Service Donated by People of Utah to State's Naval Namesake. New York. Five hundred Utahns on Monday witnessed the ceremonies attending at-tending the presentation of the silver service of 122 pieces donated by the people of Utah to the slate's naval namesake. 'Governor William Spry, in a brief but forceful speech, told of the pioneers pio-neers and their carrying the flag to the new portions of this country, saying say-ing that he hoped the battleship with its officers and crew would be as valiant and patriotic as were the pioneers, pio-neers, in defending the flag in all the waters of the world. "As the pioneers blazed the way in the west," he said, "I hope you will help blaze the way to a better, higher civilization. "This service has been contributed to by 30,000 school children whose hearts are with this ship and whose eyes will be upon it through its entire en-tire life." Captain William S. Benson, in command com-mand of the Utah, accepted the service. ser-vice. The Utah is the best armored ship in the world. The main armor jacket is eight feet deep and eleven inches thick. Above this is a second eight-foot eight-foot deep belt nine inches thick. |
