Show STEAMERS COLLIDE IN FOG. Passengers and Crew Are Rescued from Sinking Vessel. Nantucket, Mass. In groping her way through the dense fog off Nantucket Nan-tucket lightship at dawn Saturday, the steamer Florida, of the Lloyd-Italiano line, bound to New York from Naples, dealt a deathblow to the outward-bound outward-bound steamer Republic, of the White Star line, laden with pleasure-seeking pleasure-seeking passengers for southern Europe, Eu-rope, and with supplies for the United States battleship fleet. The steamer Florida, proving to be less seriously injured than the other steamer, took aboard the Republic's passengers almost immediately, and twelve hours later all the officers and crew of the Republic, with the exception excep-tion of Captain Sealby, left that vessel. ves-sel. Captain Sealby, in his gig, refused re-fused to leave the sight of his beloved be-loved shift until she had disappeared forever beneath the waves. |
