Show Tonopah Swept by Flames. Tonopah. Nev. Three business blocks in Tonopah were swept by a fire that broke out at 3 o'clock Monday Mon-day morning. The loss is estimated at between $300,000 and ?500,000. One of the heaviest losses is that of W. W. Booth, editor of the Bonanza, estimated esti-mated at $33,000, with no insurance. The fire started in the Knights of Pythias building and swept that structure in a few minutes. The fire then crossed the street and devoured Tom Kendall's old home, jumped from there to the old Tonopah Sun's plant, completely gutting it. and from there it extended up Central street, destroying many homes. It then doubled back and licked up the Tonopah Tono-pah block, worth 550,000, the buildings build-ings of Harry Epstine broiler; D. Schmidt, the tailor; Wels-Fargo company, com-pany, Mrs. Dunn, Judge Sanders, South Nevada Abstract company, Dr. McLeod, Dr. Mussante, Dr. Cunningham, Cunning-ham, Dr. Richards, Dr. Davis and Mrs. Bell, all losing everything. The wind then veered and the handsome Brokers' Brok-ers' Exchange building was swept, only a shell of it standing. |
