Hugh Lisonbee epoke for Monroe as the best town in which to hold the next convention. They want to show the United Clubs some good roads and a big-hearted community . Mr, Lisonbee drummed up the town so big that there was no getting away and Monroe will have a chaace to "show us," when the 12th of November Novem-ber comes , P Fjeldsted- J. S, Peterson, Dr. Roy Burch, N. Gledhill. With annoyance galore to beset their plans the Salina commercial club had their haw;'- :.ill Wednesday - ; baking care of the United Con. ci.ii Clubs' convention. Floods during dur-ing the night previous caused the - nth train to be out off for a time I1 liile the north train was delayed un-til un-til I ite in the afternoon, causing a wai; until aftsr 6 o'clock in expectation expecta-tion of visiting delegates to arrive. A ball game between Salina and Iv.si-nore Iv.si-nore happened as an attraction during dur-ing this time. There was keen disappointment dis-appointment fait when it was seen upon arrival of the train that not one representative appeared from north of Gunnison valley. To add discomfiture dis-comfiture a flood from the canyon had served to put out of commission the electric light power, which efforts to restore in time for service that night proved futile. The coay home occupied by Salina club was elaborately decoratsd and it was here that the convention met, For causes above mentioned it was three hours after the time set before President P. F. Peterson of the Salina organization called the meeting to action. He made a sensible weloome speech in whioh ha emphasized the 1 imnortunce of the commercial chihs and deprecated in strong terms the indifference of President Murray toward to-ward the organization which had honored him with the position, M. Peterson expressed his regret also that Sanpete county, outside of Gunnison, Gun-nison, and Piute were not represented. represent-ed. He scored Richfield in no complimentary com-plimentary terms, it being the county seat and so slimly represented. Mr. Hood, newspaper representative from there, was told to take home the news of how the speaker felt toward Richfield Rich-field over the seeming slight. Mayor H. F. Jorgensen of Salina in a neat speech welcomed the visiting visit-ing delegates and bade them "be happy and gay, for it is you who help to make all about us greater, grander, and better towns," Mr, Stillman of Richfield told in a vein of humor about "The Benefits of County Fairs." C. N. Lund of Salina gave an appreciable ap-preciable talk on "How Can Clubs Promote the Good Roads Movement? ' "Social Features and Benefits of Club Life" was handled by Dr. West in a pleasing style, giving a number of thoughts whioh the clubs would do well to hed in their management. His talk on this subject is deserving of publication verbatim, which we would do if we had it in writing. Mt, Pleasant, Marysvale and Manti Man-ti had each a place on . se program, but there was no resporjsa except a latter of regret from the latter placa that circumstances prevented attend- j f.i-.-e on this particular date. Discussions were meagre principally principal-ly from !-'ck of time through the delay. de-lay. A male quartette gave two selections durii Ig the meeting and solos from the violin and cornet made up Micgetber a pleasing diversion. Owing to lateness in commencing it became necessary to divide the proceedings pro-ceedings in two sessions, the recess being utilized as a banquet hour at the White House hotel. There every delegate was seated to a splendid repast re-past spread under a gleam of bril-liaoce. bril-liaoce.
