Show ANNENT SCHOOL DISTRICT CONSOLIDATION. The talk so general just uovv all over the county upou the subject of consolidating the school districts to constitute one of the first class is of no small moment. It is said that the board of county commissioners at its next session, on Tuesday, contemplates contem-plates doing this unless objection is urged from the people. Hence the need of getting together that some understanding may be obtained ob-tained as to the effect concentration would mean to us. This county has the necessary school population for organizing as proposed and the board of commissioners empowered by statute stat-ute to effect the same, but surely the people's wishes will be a considera lion in the matter. The county comprises seventeen school districts, governed by fifty-one trustees drawing an allowance of at least $2,000 annually. Under the oonselidation plan, the same amount will be required for salary by a board of five trustees, besides compensation compensa-tion foi both a secretary and treasurer. treasur-er. There is no saving of eKpense, according to this, and certainly less ohanoe for adjusting matters as they( arise locally, wiih ;o large a allotted etnong only five t. no ; Another th'.r..,;, the be tion and not the people a ve the say as to who shall take jffice of school superintendent. Consolidation may be the proper thing where there is less territory covered cov-ered and shool population more concentrated con-centrated by a great deal than is here in Sanpete. Let us get out tomorrow (Saturday) night and talk it over earnestly. Possibly consolidation would be the right thing. |
