Show Acted Just Right. One-cent postage on Iir6t-cla88 matter mat-ter offers no temptation to the EpL-raim EpL-raim Commercial club , according to action taken by the organization at its meeting last Wednesday, says the Ephraim Enterprise. A communication communica-tion from the '',One-cent Postage League" requested the club to petition peti-tion the congresmen of this state for a one cent postage rate on first class matter and advanced the argument that one cent of every two cents paid in mailing a letter is a tax for the benefit of second class matter. TLe club tabled the communication and went on record as beiug opposed to any action that would tend to increase in-crease the second-class rate. The speakers argued that if the tax com plained of really exists, then it must be a beneficent tax inasmuch as it minimizes the ancient annual deficit of the Post Office department. Moreover, More-over, if it lowers the second -class rate it encourages the circulation of educational edu-cational literature, and for that reason rea-son it ii one of the best taxes imaginable, it was said. |
