There stands our brave hero, whose face alone tells of the noble and brave deeds rendered to the country in whioh we now Jive and rejoice as free Ijoru Americans. Do your thoughts not lead you back to the hardships suffered by him and his brave soldiers duriug the American Revolution? Ah I how .my heart longs for those days. I would give any gift that a person Bhould desire de-sire if they would but take me back to the days of Washington and let mine eyes be relieved at the sight of our noble countryman, who suffered as no words can describe. Had we ought not to admire him, and offer thanks to our Heavenly Father for this one great blessing He hath bestowed be-stowed upon this great country ot ours. There he stands, playing his favorite favor-ite flute. Miss Nellie Custis is accompanying ac-companying him on the spioet. Mrs Washington is sitting by, enjoying the sweet music. Washington has a very handsome mansion in Mount Vernon, Virginia. Though he has slaves, they are treated very kindly and never know what it is to want for anything that will enable them to be happy. He and his family were leading a simple, sweet and beautiful life up to his death. A large monument was erected in honor of our noble countryman, George Washington. |
