Nine hours of continuous contin-uous pounding at the hands of the Republican Re-publican minority of the house failed to make a change in the first Democratic Demo-cratic tariff bill that placing on the free list agricultural implements, meats and many other articles. ' ' ; This came after the Democrats had voted down, or ruled out of order, mfire than one hundred amendments and had demonstrated again that the Democratic majority was a compact and smoothly work'ng machine for the enactment of legislation. Minority Leader Mann offered amendment after amendment, ranging rang-ing all the way from free rice to fi'ee lead and nig iron; but those that v. ere not ruled out of order were cheerfully voted down by an alrnost solid Democratic Demo-cratic vote. An attempt by Mr. Mann to recommit the bill to the committee on ways and means was tabled by the house. |
