Show ANOTHER CHICKEN LIE. I'omrauniL'atcJ. Some time ago, way up east in the First Ward, a sick old hen reluctantly re-luctantly wandered about a certain dwelling until it became a decided nuisance. One day the hen turned up its toes and the good lady of the house told the children to bury it in a deep, deep hole. They obeyed and took the chicken by the nap of the neck and chucked it into a hole previously prepared for the purpose, covering it with about three feet of earth. Several days had elapsed when the lady discovered dis-covered to her surprise another sick hen strolling about the house that looked exactly the same as the one buried. She called the children child-ren and sent them to see if the supposed dead one was still resting peacefully in its grave, when to their astonishment they found the chicken had actually dug its way out and was now enjoying life again. |
