Show VICTORIOUS REBELS COMMIT WILD EXCESSES IN DURANGO Forty Women Suicide as Result of Treatment of Captors Who Entered City After Long Siege. Mexico City. Forty women residents, resi-dents, most of them of the better class, have committed suicide in the city of Durango since its occupation last week by the rebels after a long siege, according to a private letter received re-ceived here from that city Tuesday. The women, it says, became desperate as the result of their treatment by the victorious rebel3. Consular-advices say that the rebels who entered Durango conducted themselves them-selves like bandits, burning a large part of the business section of the city and looting it and joining in the wildest excesses. The report says that foreign flags were not respected. Several American citizens were wounded during the fighting, while one Englishman was killed, according to these reports. Private advices from other sources say that a group of German women in Durango were forced to submit to indignities in-dignities from the rebel adherents. The Mexican government is preparing prepar-ing a column of troops to march to the relief of the city, but many days must pass before its arrival there. |
